CHRYSALIS

Chrysalis explores the outdoor kitchen as a monolithic object, shaped through material, process and transformation.

Carved from a single slab of Becagli Travertine from the Cipressi Quarry, the project draws its character from a material native to the Siena region, distinguished by a broad variation of tones and a particularly deep copper warmth. The expressive nature of the stone is central to the identity of the piece.

The original slab is divided into six smaller blocks to form the kitchen, while preserving the continuity of the material across the composition. Split surfaces are intentionally retained, setting up a dialogue between the raw and the refined, the untouched and the worked. Through this contrast, the kitchen takes on the quality of an object in a state of flux, suspended between natural formation and crafted intervention.

Each block is lightened, finished and cut by hand, allowing the material to retain both its physical presence and its inherent irregularity. The result is a piece that does not conceal the character of the stone, but instead reveals its weight, texture and geological depth.

The composition integrates essential functions only: a cooking unit with PITT hobs, a grill, and a sink, all conceived as part of the monolithic whole. With no doors or concealed appliances, Chrysalis is reduced to its elemental components, reinforcing its sculptural clarity while leaving open the possibility for future evolutions of the concept.
