FLOW

Flow explores a harmony between form and function, shaped through material, proportion and the gestures of the body in space.

Its defining feature is the variation in countertop height, which flows continuously along the full length of the kitchen, differentiating functional zones while maintaining a unified composition. This shifting datum is carried seamlessly into the detailing of the doors, where a sharp cross-section preserves the clarity of the horizontal line and emphasizes the fluidity that defines the project.

The large stone block from which Flow is formed is crafted to integrate with the other elements of the kitchen, before being reassembled as a complete composition. In this way, the kitchen can be understood almost as a sculptural whole, where the character of the material is revealed through every detail.

Contrasting the monumentality of the stone, the interiors are formed entirely in fine solid wood, introducing a lighter and more refined language achieved through exceptional cabinetmaking. Baskets, shelves and interior components are housed within an entirely timber-lined framework, where veneers and solid wood are integrated with remarkable precision.

As a material shaped by time, stone carries an inherent sense of duration. Flow expresses this passage of time through a deep respect for natural materials, becoming an interpretation of the history of stone and Tuscan culture through the knowledge of its craftsmen.

The project brings together solid stone and solid wood in careful balance. Lightened stone doors, a countertop and sink carved from a single block are accompanied by timber elements that introduce warmth, precision and tactility. A thin suspended timber profile frames the interior components, a detail that reflects the same level of care and craftsmanship required in the making of the stone itself.

The result is a kitchen in which technical innovation, material integrity and fine detail are held in equilibrium, expressing the distinctive design language of Kensaku Oshiro.
